KNITTING OPPORTUNITY. You're invited to join the Knitting Group knit a rolled edge hat for Dunn House, this project is being sponsored by The Web-sters "Hats for Dunn House 2008". This is their annual project for our local women's shelter. Once again the Dunn House coordinators have requested that we knit hats for the women and children of Dunn House. Stop by Web-sters for a kit which includes enough yarn to make the easy hat (knit only) pattern, or you can use your own yarn. You supply the knitting needles and your time. Or, you can give Elaine a call at 488-5113 for the pattern only. The completed hats, along with a canned good or healthy cereal, which they will donate to this organization needs to be returned to The Web-sters on or before Monday, December 3. What a lovely and fulfilling way to spend some enjoyable hours knitting.

Final plans by your SOAP committee are in the works for the visit of Sharon Johnson on Sunday, October 19 at 12 noon after worship services and coffee fellowship in Calvin Hall. Perhaps you are familiar with her weekly column in the Medford Tribune, “Healthy Aging.” Whether your concerns are personal or for an aging relative, Ms. Johnson will be here to answer your questions. Light refreshments will be served. Bring the family and COME!

Bill Huntley was one of our hardworking and beloved members of the Church Family for many years. He lost his battle with ALS over a year ago. There was a Memorial Fund set up in his name. He was a prominent member of Buildings and Grounds and the fund was used by the Committee to put up a wrought iron safety fence. It is located next to Calvin Hall and replaced the weak, wooden fence. His wife, Barb Huntley, will be visiting from Ohio and we will honor his memory at the "Bill Huntley Fence" after the 8:00 a.m. service on October 19. Please join us as we remember Bill next week.
Middler Mania is here! Nikki will be taking 4 of our middle school youth to Canyonview Camp from October 17-19 for this presbytery-sponsored event. We will be worshiping together, playing games, and making new friends within our presbytery. Nikki and the youth will be returning after worship on Sunday, October 19th.

We need a van for Middler Mania!! If you are willing to donate your vehicle for a most worthy cause, please see Nikki.

Our Adult Education programming is underway! Today at 9:00, the Confirmation class took place in the Youth Den, the Inquirer's class met in the Fireside Room, and 'Relationship Reconnections' met in Calvin Hall. Our relationship class is not just for couples!! Anyone, single or partnered, is welcome to attend. This class is structured to provide educational services for people who would like to create and sustain healthy, positive relationships. These classes will continue next week.

Are you are interested in learning more about the pipe organ? On Saturday, October 18 at 10:30 am, the Southern Oregon Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will present "Pedals, Pipes, and Pizza" at First Presbyterian Church, Holly and 8th, in Medford. This free program will demonstrate and explain the workings of the instrument. Children of all ages are welcome. For more information, please call Peggy Evans at 541-482-3075.

Music at St. Mark's presents Organ Spectacular, an organ recital on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 3:00 pm beginning at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 5th and Oakdale in Medford, and then moving to First Presbyterian Church, 8th and Holly. Margaret Evans and Ginni Peterson, organists, and Larry Stubson, violin, will be presenting this recital, which is part of the American Guild of Organists' International Year of the Organ. There will be events all around the world on October 19 celebrating "the King of Instruments." This program will feature organ favorites, including Bach's Toccata and Fugue in d minor; Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring; Ives's Variations on 'America'; Widor's Toccata; Sousa's "Stars and Stripes" arranged for organ duet; and others, including two pieces written especially for Oct. 19. Both of these pipe organs were installed the same week in 1992! A reception will follow this free concert.
