1At Pentecost, we acknowledge the coming of the Holy Spirit, which
transforms human life and all of creation. Through our participation
in the Pentecost Offering, we send forth God's powerful, curative
love to children at risk, youth, and young adults. This year's theme, "Send
forth your spirit!" is from Psalm 104:30. The passage describes
the glory of a creation that is filled with God's holy and life-giving
spirit. The Pentecost Offering is a tangible way to demonstrate the
Spirit within us! It gives us the opportunity to use 40% of the amount
we receive to minister in our own community on behalf of children
at risk. 60% of the Pentecost Offering supports, guides and nurtures
the faith of Presbyterian young people, calls forth a new generation
of church leadership, and advocates for children at risk on a national
level.
The sign-up sheet for greeters for the Contemporary Service at 9:30
am, the Traditional Service at 11:00 am or the Combined Service at
10:00 am is getting lonely in the Narthex. Please sign up to welcome
people as they arrive. This job takes about 20 minutes and it is
fun to greet friends and meet new folks. Thank you.
1The Mother's Day NetWorker cards will be available after each worship
service today. The suggested donation of $10 provides an insecticide
treated anti-malaria net for a pregnant woman or new mother in Africa
as well as instructions on its use from a community health worker.
The donor receives a card which may be given to someone you are honoring
this Mother's Day. If $10 isn't in your budget, any amount will be
welcome. For more information call Shirley Patton, 482-2161.
The Contemplative Prayer Group will have its final meeting of the season
on Wednesday, May 14th at 11:00 a.m. in the Fireside Room. We will
reconvene again in the fall.
Westminster Circle studies "Above and Beyond, Hearing God's Call
in Jonah and Ruth" We will conclude our Bible Study of Jonah and
Ruth on Thursday, May 15 when we meet at "Treetops," the
home of Shirley Patton and Belle Douglass. The address is 110 Terrace
and it's right above downtown. Please call 482-2161 for directions.
The lesson, "Ordinary People" focuses on Ruth 4 and suggests
there may be a lot more riding on our faithfulness to God's call than
we realize. The Circle is always open, and we'd love to have you join
us for refreshments and friendship building and engagement with the
Bible from 10 – noon.
1Habitat for Humanity -- Apostle Build. Our church is partnering with
the 1st Congregational Church, Medford, to help build a Habitat House
in Central Point. We should help on 3 Saturdays. The dates and jobs
proposed are: May 17th - roofing, August 9th - painting, and September
27th - landscaping and cleanup. Of course, schedules sometimes change
so the jobs may change. We'd like about 5-6 people for each of these
Saturdays. Please let us know as soon as possible if you'd be interested
in any of these dates, especially May 17th. There will be a sign-up
sheet in the narthex.
All youth are invited to the Rogue Rock Gym on Saturday, May 17th from
12:00-2:00 for some climbing fun!! The Gym is located between Phoenix
and Medford off of South Stage Road. Youth are responsible for their
transportation to the Rock Gym, and are asked to bring a $5 donation
to defray the costs. A light lunch and snacks will be provided. Contact
Nikki if you are planning on attending....all youth need a waiver
signed by their parents to be able to climb!!
It's time for another All-Star All-Church Kickball Game!! Sponsored
by the youth of our church, children of all ages, parents, and grandparents,
are invited to join us on the lawn of the church for a scintillating
game of Kickball on Sunday, May 18th at 4:30. We will be having a hot-dog
cookout at 5pm, with a bake sale afterwards complete with Root Beer
floats; Church Cookbooks will be for sale also! All proceeds will go
to benefit the Youth Mission to Mexico.
The Writer’s Group will skip its meeting of May 20th so some
can fly away to the four-winds for inspirational rejuvenation. We’ll
be back on track – first and third Tuesdays – beginning
June 3rd. We’ll welcome and cheer some new faces. It’s
an interesting and friendly group. Give us a try. You’ll be surprised
at what you will find that’s fun to write about and share. We
keep secrets!
1Office Manager, Linda Brewer, is on vacation through May 26. During
this period the church office will be open Monday thru Friday, from
9:00 a.m. to noon only. Our faithful office volunteers will answer
your phone calls. If you have questions only Linda can answer (i.e.
about your giving record), or questions that can wait for a while – please
save them for Linda’s return at the end of May.
Let’s Celebrate! In June, Linda Brewer will have served as our
Office Manager for twenty years. We would like to make a quilt/wall
hanging for her with individual members of the congregation each creating
a block for her. We will have the blocks cut and available in Calvin
Hall after each service on May 18th and 25th. Elaine has agreed to
sew them together for us. We will present it to Linda on June 15th.
